Blossoms start with seeds....

This is the first glimpse of one of my retirement endeavors. This is a 'hotbed' for planting seeds in the winter before the last frost. When the temperatures dip below freezing, the bed will be covered with canvas to protect the little seedlings from frost. My son and nephew were sweet enough to build it for me for Christmas.

We placed the hotbed in my vegetable garden to keep out the livestock, farm fowl and the occasional deer. I cleared the soil of as much grass and weeds as I could and added some peatmoss for a little moisture retention.

And then, into my little hotbed, I placed my tomato seeds. Heirloom Homestead tomatoes. About 100 of them. I snuggled the little babies down into the soil and gave them a little drink. Happy growing little seeds!!

The seeds travelled to me all the way from Ohio. Thanks Tomato Bob!

Welcome!

Blossom means to develop and flourish. That's why I picked it for the name of my blog. I see the act of blossoming as one would see a flower blooming in slow motion on a science channel on television. When applied to my life, blossoming is the process (may it take a lifetime) of coming into full bloom. A flower bud is beautiful in itself. When the bud begins to open, it takes on a different sort of vitality and freshness. It evokes an idea of new horizons and potential. That's where I am as we move into the new year of 2012. I hope you will join me in my 'blossoming' process.
